How to Edit AI-Generated Content: A Practical Editorial Pass
Editing AI content is less about making it “sound human” and more about making it accurate, specific, coherent and worth reading.
Pass 1: verify the answer
Confirm that the introduction answers the query and that the article does not wander into adjacent topics simply because the model had more to say.
Pass 2: verify facts
Check dates, names, prices, statistics, product features and direct claims against primary or authoritative sources. Remove claims you cannot support.
Pass 3: remove model patterns
Delete repetitive summaries, unnecessary scene-setting, overlong conclusions and empty adjectives. Combine sections that repeat the same idea in different words.
Pass 4: add real specificity
Add examples, constraints, decision rules, exceptions and explanations that help the reader act. Specificity is more valuable than simply adding length.
Pass 5: inspect links and metadata
Check internal links, external evidence, title, description, headings and the final CTA. Make sure monetized links are clearly disclosed where required.
